Taste the terroir at Fiore Winery

Fiore Winery

Fiore Winery recently added their own distillery.

One of the things we love most about our region is the terroir. Stunning landscapes through which to hike are simply indicators of the abundance that comes from the land. Fiore Winery, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, has been a leader in showing everything Maryland has to offer.

About Fiore Winery

Owned and operated by the Fiore family, the business extends through three generations of family members. And though they certainly honor the past at Fiore Winery, they’re certainly not stuck in it. In the spirit of continual growth and evolution, a distillery was recently co-located on the winery grounds.

Italian-born Mike and Rose Fiore. Decades ago, they established a small family farm with horses, cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, and a huge garden. Mike planted 50 grape vines, which quickly turned into 100 and then 150 vines in the mineral-rich soil.

In 1986, Fiore became Maryland’s 12th bonded winery opening for business with an initial production of 1,500 gallons of wine.

Distilling at Fiore Winery

Fiore experimented with distilling operations using a small 25 gallon pot still. The thought was to process the grape skins, pulp, and seeds that remained after fermentation into a popular Italian spirt call Grappa. And thus the distillery was born!

Tasting at Fiore Winery

The tasting room at Fiore Winery & Distillery is a quaint year-round setting for sampling offerings of hand-crafted wines and spirits. Included is a tour of the production facilities—production facility tours are scheduled in advance for 1PM and 3PM daily and may not always available. Advance planning is highly recommended.

The tasting room is open to the public year-round from 10AM to 5PM Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 PM on Sundays. During Daylight Savings, (i.e. the warmer months), weekend hours are extended an hour to 6 PM. The tasting room is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
